As 2019 comes to a close, we are discontinuing our MM99 digital camera adapter. These were originally for the Sony Mavica Floppy disc cameras - the first really popular consumer digital cameras on the market. The University of Florida Agricultural Extension folks said they were buying the Sony Mavica FD88 cameras for all their county agents, and if we could make a microscope adapter for those cameras they would buy five immediately and many more over time - as well as microscopes to use with them! Other customers were also asking for similar products, so over the summer of 1999 I developed the MM99 adapter. Later, about 2003, we got a call from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park folks wanting to use a Sony Handycam camcorder to record video from a microscope for a Park Service film about biodiversity. The MM99 worked like a charm. Shortly thereafter, the same folks bought themselves a Sony HD camcorder and a Dell HD monitor and invited me to try the MM99 with that system. The live HD image was outstanding! Over the last 20 years we've sold over 6,000 MM99 type adapters, and developed other adapters for Nikon Coolpix cameras and others.
